WHAT'S NEW WITH US...
We had a wonderful time relaxing down in Florida for Mark's 40th birthday. We visited EPCOT and Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure. I think our whole family can agree that we liked Islands of Adventure better - especially the roller coaster! We stayed in a condo which was recommended by Virginia Knowles. The condo is in New Smyrna Beach and it is located across the street from the ocean. We had such a relaxing time just lying on the beach and having some fun in the waves that Isabel was bringing on! Mom was digging for baby clams and putting them in her hand and feeling them dig in and tickle her, the little ones dug to their heart's content, the teens were busy burying themselves in the sand and tossing bread on their chests, trying to catch the sea gulls, and Dad had fun just lounging on the beach chaise! It was nice to just get away...

A HEALTHY RECIPE FROM LINDA'S KITCHEN
TWO POUND STEW (LB LB STEW - Linda Brodsky's Lentil Barley Stew)
Ingredients:
1 cup raw, rinsed lentils
1 cup raw, rinsed pearl barley
3 cups water or veggie stock
1 clove fresh minced garlic
1 chopped white onion
1 minced celery stalk
2 large chopped carrots
1 medium diced squash
3 large diced white potatoes
1 tsp. chopped fresh parsley

In a large pot, simmer lentils in water or broth, covered, for approx. 2-3 hours, adding more liquid as necessary. Be sure to stir often to prevent buring. Add barley and the vegetables and spices and simmer another hour or so. Season to taste! You can also make this in your crockpot - just start in out in the morning and by dinner time you'll have a nice hearty stew! Enjoy!

A BOOK REVIEW FROM MARK
Great Is Thy Faithfulness, by Larry Burkett
The moment I picked up Larry Burkett's daily devotional, 'Great is Thy Faithfulness', I wanted to read it. The rich smell of its leather cover and good heft for a book of its size made just holding the book a pleasure. But then I started to read. In fact, I planned my daily time with the Lord around this little devotional. I was at a point in my life that, like many men, I realized that my spiritual time with God was lacking. I wanted to get on a daily regimen of reading the Word and praying.

I decided that first thing in the morning, when the house was quiet, was the best time -- far better than last thing at night when all I can do is read 5 minutes before nodding off. Next, I chose Burkett's devotional to start my time with the Lord, which consists of reading the bible and prayer. It is easy to read, the devotionals are short, and it offers an excellent one-year bible reading course. The lessons are thought provoking. And humbling.

I'm amazed as I wind my way through the book. Each day there is something I can relate to. Something real - from God's word, speaking through scripture, and this man's thorough knowledge of the bible and God's teachings. Larry Burkett was certainly a man's man. And I'm sure in his place in Heaven, he has heard those words we all yearn to hear, "well done, good and faithful servant". I'm thankful he left behind something of real value to use throughout the year to help us become more Christ-like.
