Happy June to everyone! I hope you are enjoying your summer so far! Happy Belated Mother's & Father's Day to everyone - I hope yours was good.
On Mother's Day, we were together with four of our children at Grandma's new house, so it was nice.
On Father's Day, Cassie informed us that we were going to be grandparents! Wow! She is due in February. Her baby is going to have some aunts/uncles that are younger than him/her! :) I didn't like the name "grandma" so much, so I found a name I think that will suit me well - nonna. It's Italian for grandmother. Please keep her and her husband Tristan in your prayers. Nonna Linda. :)
Here we are at the FPEA convention!
Here are four of our children - Victoria, Cassandra, David and Edward on Mother's Day
Here is David at the FPEA convention selling his famous Marshmallow Guns!
This is the first convention where Victoria offered facepainting. She did a great job!
HSLDA Responds to Subway & Subway Offers Apology
In response to Subway's exclusion of homeschoolers for their "Every Sandwich Tells A Story Contest", HSLDA has written an open letter to Subway's President, Fred DeLuca. I used to work for an advertising agency that did work for the Subway restaurants on Long Island, NY and I am very disappointed in them. I hope they consider their actions and allow homeschoolers to participate.
This is an awesome rendtion of The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Here is the introduction:
If you missed hearing the U.S. Army Band and Chorus welcome Pope Benedict XVI at the White House Rose Garden ceremony on April 15, get a load of these high school kids. One of the fathers recorded it, added some graphic enhancements to the recording, and posted it on the web. The song, of course, is the 'Battle Hymn Of The Republic.'
Note: When this link opens into your web browser, it takes about 30 seconds
or so before it starts to play, at least it did for me.
My favorite line is, "As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free."
Don't tell me the United States is NOT a Christian nation!
Wow! As I was doing research on "The Battle Hymn" I came across this YouTube of Judy Garland singing it. I have always loved her voice and as a vocal major in college, I am especially interested in singing voices. She is absolutely amazing. Check out this video - but read the comments about it too. This was done before I was even born. Judy sang it without the producers' knowledge. Even back in 1963, they did not want the words "God" or "Christ" sung, but Judy did it anyway. Supposedly, she had a strong faith in God. I hope I get to meet her one day in heaven. Judy Garland singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic
The Shack is an awesome book. This is the only fictional book I have read for my own personal enjoyment in years! I normally don't read fiction, but when someone on our home church discussion group mentioned that "if you don't read fiction, this is the ONE book you gotta read," then I went and got it. And I am glad I did. As I pored through it, I laughed a lot and my husband Mark would be next to me, asking, "What's so funny"? Then I'd be crying and rereading certain parts so that they would sink in. William P. Young is an excellent writer! I loved The Shack so much that we just had to add it to the books we offer here at Brodsky Ministries! - See details

Have you struggled to reconcile God’s vision of virtuous womanhood with worldly myths that marginalize and mock the role of the homemaker?
Do you wrestle with cultural messages that demean the homemaker’s calling and exalt instead the emotionally androgynous power-woman — the wife whose worth is measured only by the degree of her ambition, the shape of her body, or her money-making skills? Such is the image of the “desperate housewife” that the modern media, culture, and feminism are promoting with great energy.

A Cool Summer Treat
This is a great item to take to a picnic or outdoor party!
Lay a dampened dish towel on a counter and place melon on top to prevent it from rolling. With a water-soluble marker, draw outline of basket onto melon, making sure the handle is at least 1 1/4 inches wide. Using a large sharp knife, carefully cut melon along marker line. Remove excess rind and set aside. With a melon baller, scoop out all the watermelon flesh and place in a large glass or ceramic bowl; set aside. With vegetable peeler, even out scalloped edges of watermelon. Cover watermelon basket with clear plastic wrap and set aside. With a melon baller, scoop out cataloupe and honeydew. Combine melon balls with clean berries and grapes. Add some fresh squeezed lemon from one whole large lemon. Toss & chill in refrigerator. Just before serving, transfer fruit salad to watermelon basket.
This is a lot of fun and can be made in a variety of ways.
