July 2005

Hello!
We are in the midst of our busy convention season over here.  June was just as busy as May!  We were vendors at the S. Carolina SCHEA convention in Sumter, SC and then the next weekend we were at the Sonfest Christian Music Festival at Carowinds on the N. Carolina and S. Carolina borders.
We had a good time at Carowinds, visiting with Mark's sister and her family who live in Charlotte, NC.  His mom and stepdad also were visiting from Arizona.  We even got my mother-in-law to go on a log flume ride - and she loved it!

Here are a couple of pictures:

Our Ladies Homemaking Group has been busy too.  We had a baby shower for one of the ladies, Jennifer, who just had her first baby.  She was very surprised.  Jennifer was the one who taught me how to crochet.  I've been working on a baby blanket that I told her was for my niece, but it was really for her!
Here is a picture of the blanket - not bad for my first crocheting project! : )

We also had a special guest teach us how to can strawberry jam - and it wasn't a woman!  Our friend Bob Welch (as in Welch's jelly!) came and taught our group one evening.  He has won an incredible amount of blue ribbons from the Fair, we just had to have him teach us.  We all got a jar of jam to take home too!  Here is a picture:

Workshop by Mark

Mark has been giving a workshop for Homeschool Dads.  Here is the description:
"Home 'Work' for Dad" - As heads of their homes, men should play a major role in their children's upbringing.  How better than to work from home, rather than being away at a job for 10 to 12 hours a day!  Mark Brodsky, entrepreneur and homeschooling father, came home after 15-plus years in the corporate world.  Mark tells his story and gives dads pointers on how they can come home too!  He gives business ideas, tips and a Q & A.  Why should moms and children be home during the day and not dads?  Come home and be the patriarch God intended."

Mark highlighted many things he learned from Robert Kiyosaki's books, 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad'.

Mark will be giving this workshop again at the HERI convention in Jacksonville, FL, the weekend of July 15th & 16th.  If you are interested, in getting a tape, please contact us.

A Note from Mark
"We have a lot of fun and get some good information out.  If anything, I hope to accomplish this - to help you in the process to start thinking a little differently.  To change your paradigm about earning money for your family.  I do promote the Rich Dad Poor Dad books as a way to help educate you on not just being your own boss, but how to better plan your financial future!"

HEALTH NEWS

Some friends of ours has a relative who is dying of cancer.  I just gave them information about a hospital in Mexico that works with Hallelujah Acres.  Actually, the hospital is how I first heard of the Hallelujah Diet.  Our former pastor's father had gone down there for laetrile treatments for his cancer and he was put on the Hallelujah Diet.  Later on, he got off the diet and the cancer came back. When he went back for more laetrile treatments, they told him that they will treat him, but the most important thing was to STAY ON THE DIET.  Unfortunately, he didn't stay on the diet and passed away.  However, he lived for a few years after the conventional doctors told him he had only 6 months to live.  Here is some information I received about the hospital just this past week from the Hallelujah Acres e-newsletter.  If you receive the e-newsletter, you may have already read it.

INTRODUCING - THE HALLELUJAH ACRES CLINIC

For many years, folks with serious health issues have been asking us here at Hallelujah Acres if there was some place we could recommend, where they could go and be under the care of a Christian doctor, in a Christian Hospital setting, and be nourished with The Hallelujah Diet. Well at long last, we have such a place! Hallelujah Acres has recently partnered with Oasis of Hope Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico, to create THE HALLELUJAH ACRES CLINIC, a state-of- the-art alternative medical treatment facility for patients suffering from cancer and other chronic illnesses.

Hallelujah Acres chose Oasis of Hope as its partner in providing health services for many reasons, including its philosophy of compassionate healing; its understanding of the body's self-healing mechanisms; its focus on nutrition as a means of healing; its faith and trust in God; and its outstanding reputation and patient-healing success rate, among others. Oasis of Hope Hospital was founded in 1963 by the late Dr. Ernesto Contreras, Senior, recognized as this century's pioneer in holistic medicine, and is now operated by his son, Dr. Francisco Contreras, an oncologist. Together they have treated over 100,000 patients with their unique program of a Body, Mind, and Spirit approach, which focuses on the patient rather than the disease.

Today, the Contreras mission continues to be carried out at Oasis of Hope, where Dr. Contreras and all of the hospital staff work diligently to improve the quality of people's physical, emotional, and spiritual lives. Oasis of Hope is a full service, state-of-the-art hospital specializing in alternative approaches in care for the health issues we face today, and is an ideal setting for implementing The Hallelujah Diet under medical supervision.

The foundation of the Hallelujah Acres Clinic is The Hallelujah Diet, which is based on God's instructions to mankind in Genesis 1:29. This diet is mostly raw, living plant foods and their juices, which feed your body health- building foods that also help to eliminate toxins. In our classes, you will learn about The Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle, why many people adopt it as an effective method to deal with cancer and other illnesses, and how you can easily integrate it into your daily life after your stay at the clinic.

You will also get plenty of sunshine, rest, and moderate exercise, which are essential to healing your body. And to support your spiritual health, the program includes time for Bible study, prayer and devotions, sharing, and meditations on God's goodness and love. Our physicians, who are highly trained cancer care specialists, attend to you daily, monitoring your health with modern diagnostics as they review tests and scans to note your progress. Conventional and alternative Medical treatments are also available on site should intervention be required.

The Oasis of Hope Hospital offers: Fully Trained Medical Professionals; Modern 80-Bed Medical/Surgical Facility; Intensive Care Unit; 24-Hour Emergency Care; Radiology Department (CT Scan, X-Ray, Ultrasound); 25 Specialties (Oncology, Urology, Gynecology, Neurology, etc.); Cosmetic/Reconstructive Surgery; Serene Environment; and Confidentiality.

After your stay, we will continue to monitor your health for five years, as we conduct a study to document the efficacy of The Hallelujah Diet as a cancer therapy, the results you obtain will be included in this study, which will be published in medical review journals.

A HEALTHY RECIPE FROM LINDA'S KITCHEN

Oven Baked Potatoes

Ingredients:
Small Red Potatoes (as much as your family may need!)
Olive oil
Fresh dill
Italian herbs
Sea Salt
Garlic powder

Directions:
Clean and cut potatoes into thirds or quarters and place in an oven-friendly casserole dish.  Drizzle on some olive oil, fresh dill, herbs and sea salt and mix well.  Bake in a 350-degree oven for approx. 30 minutes (keep testing with a fork for tenderness, ovens and dishes vary).  Make sure you keep turning the potatoes as they tend to stick to the bottom of the pan if you don't!
My family cannot get enough of these potatoes - they love them!  I made this as side dish when we had dinner over a friend's house to teach them how to eat healthy! : )

PRAYER REQUESTS

We truly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you remember us with the following requests:
  • That we conceive this week, and my progesterone levels stay up.
  • For traveling mercies during our next two trips - to Jacksonville, FL and Atlanta, GA.
  • For our current real estate transaction to be profitable.  Please pray that we find some more real estate worth buying.
  • For more web site and computer-related business to meet the needs of our bills, especially our mortgage.
  • For God to bring people to our booths (and into our lives) that need to be ministered.
  • For Cassie's courting process.  She now has a young man who is very interested in her.  Please pray that they both seek God in all that they do.

PRAISES

We certainly couldn't ask for prayer requests without telling you of some answered prayers! How could we give God the glory if we didn't share!  We praise Him for the following items:
  • We took on 12 children from Compassion to try to get them sponsored at our church's Mission Fair and the conventions we've been to.  At Sonfest, Compassion was there and ran out of their own packets and needed to take ours!  We have only one more boy to be sponsored (if you are interested, please e-mail us!) and we will have him sponsored by the end of this month!
  • Eddie came back from his Boy Scout camping trip and Police Cadet competition safe and sound!  He does some very physical "boy" things while he's gone and of course, mommy still worries - even though he is 17!  But I know God is watching over him! The Summerville Police Cadets took home eight trophies and won the Best Overall Trophy! Yea! One of the officers promised to take them out to dinner anywhere in the state and next year when they go back to the competition, they will go in style in Escalades!

A Story to Share

: How Strange Are You?
Beth Moore
Apr 20, 2005
Knoxville Airport -

Waiting to board the plane: I had the Bible on my lap and was very intent upon what I was doing. I'd had a marvelous morning with the Lord.

I say that because I want to tell you it is a scary thing to have the Spirit of God really working in you.

You could end up doing some things you never would have done otherwise. Life in the Spirit can be dangerous for a thousand reasons not the least of which is your ego...

I tried to keep from staring but he was such a strange sight. Humped over in a wheelchair, he was skin and bones, dressed in clothes that obviously fit when he was at least twenty pounds heavier. His knees protruded from his trousers, and his shoulders looked like the coat hanger was still in his shirt. His hands looked like tangled masses of veins and bones. The strangest part of him was his hair and nails. Stringy grey hair hung well over his shoulders and down part of his back. His fingernails were long. Clean, but strangely out of place on an old man.

I looked down at my Bible as fast as I could, discomfort burning my face. As I tried to imagine what his story might have been, I found myself wondering if I'd just had a Howard Hughes sighting.

Then, I remembered reading somewhere that he was dead. So this man in the airport... an impersonator maybe?

Was a camera on us somewhere?....

There I sat trying to concentrate on the Word to keep from being concerned about a thin slice of humanity served on a wheelchair only a few seats from me. All the while my heart was growing more and more overwhelmed with a feeling for him. Let's admit it. Curiosity is a heap more comfortable than true concern, and suddenly I was awash with aching emotion for this bizarre-looking old man.

I had walked with God long enough to see the handwriting on the wall. I've learned that when I begin to feel what God feels, something so contrary to my natural feelings, something dramatic is bound to happen. And it may be embarrassing. I immediately began to resist because I could feel God working on my spirit and I started arguing with God in my mind.

"Oh no, God please no." I looked up at the ceiling as if I could stare straight through it into heaven and said, "Don't make me witness to this man. Not right here and now. Please. 'll do anything. Put me on the same plane, but don't make me get up here and witness to this man in front of this gawking audience. Please, Lord!"...

There I sat in the blue vinyl chair begging His Highness, "Please don't make me witness to this man. Not now. I'll do it on the plane."

Then I heard it..."I don't want you to witness to him. I want you to brush his hair."

The words were so clear, my heart leapt into my throat, and my thoughts spun like a top. Do I witness to the man or brush his hair? No brainer. I looked straight back up at the ceiling and said, "God, as I live and breathe, I want you to know I am ready to witness to this man. I'm on this Lord. I'm you're girl! You've never seen a woman witness to a man faster in your life. What difference does it make if his hair is a mess if he is not redeemed? I am on him. I am going to witness to this man."

Again as clearly as I've ever heard an audible word, God seemed to write this statement across the wall of my mind. "That is not what I said, Beth. I don't want you to witness to him. I want you to go brush his hair."

I looked up at God and quipped, "I don't have a hairbrush. It's in my suitcase on the plane, How am I suppose to brush his hair without a hairbrush?"...

God was so insistent that I almost involuntarily began to walk toward him as these thoughts came to me from God's word: "I will thoroughly furnish you unto all good works." (2 Tim 3:17) I stumbled over to the wheelchair thinking I could use one myself. Even as I retell this story my pulse quickens and I feel those same butterflies.

I knelt down in front of the man, and asked as demurely as possible, "Sir, may I have the pleasure of brushing your hair?"

He looked back at me and said, "What did you say?"

"May I have the pleasure of brushing your hair? To which he responded in volume ten, "Little lady, if you expect me to hear you, you're going to have to talk louder than that. At this point, I took a deep breath and blurted out, "SIR, MAY I HAVE THE PLEASURE OF BRUSHING YOUR HAIR?"

At which point every eye in the place darted right at me. I was the only thing in the room looking more peculiar than old Mr. Longlocks. Face crimson and forehead breaking out in a sweat, I watched him look up at me with absolute shock on his face, and say, "If you really want to."

Are you kidding? OF course I didn't want to. But God didn't seem interested in my personal preference right about then. He pressed on my heart until I could utter the words, "Yes, sir, I would be pleased. But I have one little problem. I don't have a hairbrush."

"I have one in my bag," he responded. I went around to the back of that wheelchair, and I got on my hands and knees and unzipped the stranger's old carry-on hardly believing what I was doing. I stood up and started brushing the old man's hair. It was perfectly clean, but it was tangled and matted. I don't do many things well, but I must admit I've had notable experience untangling knotted hair mothering two little girls.

Like I'd done with either Amanda or Melissa in such a condition, I began brushing at the very bottom of the strands, remembering to take my time not to pull. A miraculous thing happened to me as I started brushing that old man's hair. Everybody else in the room disappeared. There was no one alive for those moments except that old man and me. I brushed and I brushed and I brushed until every tangle was out of that hair.

I know this sounds so strange but I've never felt that kind of love for another soul in my entire life. I believe with all my heart, I - for that few minutes - felt a portion of the very love of God. That He had overtaken my heart for a little while like someone renting a room and making Himself at home for a short while. The emotions were so strong and so pure that I knew they had to be God's.

His hair was finally as soft and smooth as an infant's. I slipped the brush back in the bag, went around the chair to face him. I got back down on my knees, put my hands on his knees, and said, "Sir, do you know my Jesus?"

He said, "Yes, I do." Well, that figures. He explained, "I've known Him since I married my bride."

"She wouldn't marry me until I got to know the Savior." He said, "You see, the problem is, I haven't seen my bride in months. I've had open-heart surgery, and she's been too ill to come see me. I was sitting here thinking to myself. What a mess I must be for my bride."

Only God knows how often He allows us to be part of a divine moment when we're completely unaware of the significance. This, on the other hand, was one of those rare encounters when I knew God had intervened in details only He could have known. It was a God moment, and I'll never forget it. Our time came to board, and we were not on the same plane. I was deeply ashamed of how I'd acted earlier and would have been so proud to have accompanied him on that aircraft.

I still had a few minutes, and as I gathered my things to board, the airline hostess returned from the corridor, tears streaming down her cheeks. She said, "That old man's sitting on the plane, sobbing. Why did you do that? What made you do that?"

I said, "Do you know Jesus? He can be the bossiest thing!" And we got to share. I learned something about God that day. He knows if you're exhausted because you're hungry, you're serving in the wrong place or it is time to move on but you feel too responsible to budge. He knows if you're hurting or feeling rejected. He knows if you're sick or drowning under a wave of temptation. Or He knows if you just need your hair brushed. He sees you as an individual. Tell Him your need!

I got on my own flight, sobs choking my throat, wondering how many opportunities just like that one had I missed along the way... all because I didn't want people to think I was strange. God didn't send me to that old man. He sent that old man to me.

John 1:14 "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS

Over the past couple of years, we have heard from many people expressing their gratitude for this ministry.  When times are tough, and we have to count our pennies to go to conventions, we ask ourselves are we really touching anyone's lives?  Today I had the opportunity to read through some old testimonies, and they are very encouraging!  Here are a few:
