April 2004

WHAT'S NEW WITH US... We've had an exciting March!
At the beginning of the month, we went to The Wilds Christian Camp in the North Carolina mountains. It was beautiful! We had the privilege to hear Dr. John Morris, of the Institute of Creation Research. He shared some awesome stuff with us! (Some fun facts and good arguments for Creation are later on in this newsletter.) It was a great time overall, spent with some friends of ours who are a homeschooling family from our church.

Then the fourth week of March, the whole family served at a 5-day long tent revival. It was a lot of fun! We even got our teens to sing in the choir! (They can get pretty shy sometimes!)

We also had the opportunity to attend our local crisis pregnancy center's fundraising banquet and heard Cal Thomas speak. You can read the article I wrote in our local Christian newspaper further down in this newsletter.

HEALTH NEWS
I've been reading through this new book we now carry, Eat To Live (The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss), by Joel Fuhrman. I found it very encouraging to read what he wrote about the benefits of applying his program. He says,
"This book will allow everyone who stays on the program to become slimmer, healthier and younger looking. You will embark on an adventure that will transform your entire life. Not only will you lose weight, you will sleep better, feel better physically, have more energy, and feel better emotionally. And you will lower your chances of developing serious diseases in the future. You will learn why diets haven't worked for you in the past and why so many popular weight-loss plans simply do not meet the scientific criteria for effectiveness and safety. My promise is threefold: substantial, healthy weight reduction in a short period of time; prevention or reversal of many chronic and life-threatening medical conditions; and a new understanding of food and health that will continue to pay dividends for the rest of your life."
He also notes some pretty amazing statistics. This is an excerpt in regards to the risks of surgery for weight reduction:
"Another tempting solution is liposuction. Studies show that liposuction begets a plethora of side effects, the main one being death! A recent survey of all 1,200 actively practicing North American board-certified plastic surgeons confirmed that there are about 20 deaths for every 100,000 liposuctions, whereas the generally acceptable mortality rate for elective surgery is 1 in 100,000. Compared with the 16.4 per 100,000 mortality rate of U.S. motor vehicle accidents, liposuction is not a benign procedure. Liposuction is dangerous."

Dr. Fuhrman is a respected authority on human nutrition, a teacher to other physicians and graduate students, and an official spokesperson for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

TIDBITS FROM DR. JOHN MORRIS AND ARGUMENTS FOR CREATION
Did you know...
...that there is no such thing as a brontosaurus? It's really a combination of the apatosaurus and the camarasaurus!
...that most dinosaurs were only the size of a horse?
...that just one cell is more complex than a computer?
....that Dr. Morris was struck by lightning on Mt. Ararat while looking for Noah's ark?
...that the average animal aboard Noah's ark was about the size of a sheep?
...there is no fossil evidence of evolution?
...that Noah's ark had the same volume as 569 railroad cars, in which each railroad car holds 240 sheep?
...fossilization only occurs rapidly by a great catastrophe? (yes, Noah's Flood!)

LOW COUNTRY CRISIS PREGNANCY FUNDRAISER DINNER FEATURING CAL THOMAS
Low Country Crisis Pregnancy Center (Low Country CPC) held its annual fundraising banquet on Tuesday, March 23 at the N. Charleston Convention Center. Founded in 1986 by Anne Badgley (now the Executive Director) and a group of local pastors, the Low Country CPC's main purpose is to give young women an alternative to abortion.

Low Country CPC saves and changes lives, both physically and spiritually. In 2003, 64 clients accepted Christ and 196 Bibles were given out. In addition to evangelism, the Center meets many different kinds of needs daily. They include; free ultrasounds and pregnancy tests, compassionate crisis pregnancy counseling, parenting program, prenatal care by MUSC Nurse Midwives, referrals to local churches, post abortion counseling, Bible study support group, baby supplies and more.

The evening started with some testimonies from those that the Center has helped. The first woman stated that when her 14-year-old daughter came home pregnant, immediately she wanted her to have an abortion. But by God's intervention, she found out about the Center and took her daughter. There, the staff took an ultrasound of the unborn baby and tried to show the would-be grandmother. But she refused to look at the pictures. Her concerns were for her great financial needs, including replacing a car that wasn't working. Again, God was working and the Center was able to find a car for the family through a donation. Praise God! The woman was now proudly holding up and introducing her grandchild.

Another young woman came with her baby and husband and explained that when they found out she was pregnant, they went to the Center, where she received loving care from the staff members. Although she was already pregnant, she and her husband decided to be abstinent until their wedding. Now married, she volunteers her time at the Center to help other young women. As they ended their story, Mrs. Badgley asked that we give a hand to her husband that said he'd do the right thing and marry her - for which he received a standing ovation.

The banquet's featured speaker Cal Thomas, is the most widely read and highly recognized voices on the American political scene. He read some letters that he had received from women. One letter read, 'You hear plenty from the liberals. Women are being lied to and herded into abortion clinics.'

Thomas explained how the liberal feminists lie to women in this crisis situation. Thomas said, "They don't hear the other side of the story. There's thousands of crisis pregnancy centers throughout the country. The pressure and denial of information is what makes them do the wrong thing."

Thomas' own married pregnant daughter came home with her sonogram and asked, "Dad, how can anyone look at this and get an abortion?" Thomas answered, "You are asking the wrong question. The abortionists turn the monitor so the young woman can't see the picture of the baby."

Ultrasound technology has provided a "window to the womb" to reveal the intricate details of God's creation - an unborn child. Thomas mentioned the new 4-D ultrasound, which shows an incredibly detailed image of the baby. (For information on the new 4-D ultrasound, go to http://www.gemedicalsystems.com/rad/us/4d/index2.html)

Low Country CPC now offers ultrasounds and has seen a tremendous difference in abortion rates. Staff member Joy Yarborough explains, "Before we could provide ultrasounds, about 30 percent of the women who came in for (abortion) counseling changed their minds. But now that they can see their babies, about 70 percent change their minds."

Thomas continues with letters he has received that say, "but I don't want to put my baby up for adoption, because then I would be wondering what they were doing." He asks, "Oh, so should we kill them instead?"

In response to this hideous crime of abortion in America, Thomas feels that God has removed His spiritual protection. He states, "In America, we have always felt that our protection was not in missiles, but our protection was from God. Could it be that God removed His spiritual protection for just one moment on 9/11?"

"When we sing God Bless America - I ask, why should He? And when we say the pledge of allegiance, are we really 'under God'? My security and strength is not in Homeland Security, it's in our God in heaven."

"So what can we do?" asks Thomas. "We can raise money for the Center for the Charleston area and tell women the truth about abortion. That the nurturing mother instinct is something that God has put in women's hearts. The people who came forward tonight and gave their testimonies are the real thing - flesh and blood." And these are the people that the Center is reaching - one at a time.

"As members of a free democratic society, we must participate," says Mrs. Badgley. "As Christians, we have no choice than to allow the light within us to shine. Without that light, the world is dark. To do less - to hide that light under a bushel, is not an option our Lord allows."

So how can we participate? There are many ways to help the Low Country CPC. For 18 years, supporters have partnered with the Center to save the lives of hundreds of babies. They continue to need help in these areas: prayer intercessors, volunteer peer counselors, sorting and distributing baby clothes, baby showers given by churches and community groups, church liaisons to relay Center fundraising, shepherding homes for young women during pregnancy, office cleaning and maintenance assistance, general office help, financial support and more. To be a part of the Lord's work, please call 843-553-3528.

Thomas concludes, "Every abortion cuts off a branch of the family tree. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."

2 cups pecans
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 cup celery
